What happened at Trooping the Colour 2025?

There were over 1,350 soldiers of the Household Division and King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery in this year’s Trooping the Colour celebration, which held on Saturday, June 14.

Occasionally, the British sovereign celebrates his birthday two times annually, including Trooping the Colour on the second Saturday of June; since the reign of King George II, whose November birthday was considered too cold for a celebratory parade. The British Army refers to Trooping the Colour as the ‘King’s Birthday Parade’.

Every Trooping the Colour celebration is highlighted by an appearance of the British royals on the Buckingham Palace balcony, to watch the Royal Air Force (RAF) or Red Arrows flypast.

According to BBC live reports, members of the British royal family who stood on the palace balcony to watch the Red Arrows flypast this year include: King Charles III, Queen Camilla, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester Richard and Birgitte, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh Edward and Sophie, The Prince of Wales William, Prince Louis, Prince George, The Princess of Wales Catherine, Princess Charlotte, The Duke of Kent Edward, The Princess Royal Anne and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence.

Thousands of people, reportedly descended on central London to attend the parade, including anti-monarchy protesters who chanted “not my King”, while the people chanted “we love the King” and “God save the King”.

“This is history in the making right here”, host Jimmy Kimmel opened the 90th annual Academy Awards with a monologue. Hollywood’s biggest and most glamorous night held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

There was indeed a couple of historical moments at the 90th Academy Awards and one of such moments was when comedian and filmmaker Jordan Peele collected the ‘Best Original Screenplay’ award for his film Get Out. The movie was nominated in four categories, however, its single win reportedly makes Jordan Peele the first African-American recipient of a ‘Best Original Screenplay’ Academy Award.

Meanwhile, Frances McDormand who won the ‘Best Actress’ Oscar for her role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri delivered a speech, which seemed to be in support of women in Hollywood, the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements. This saw the women stand up to applaud her after she said “If I may be so honoured to have all the female nominees stand with me. All the filmmakers, the producers, the writers, the composers”.

Furthermore, the New York Times has a detailed report on how Lupita Nyong’o and Kumail Nanjiani made an appeal on behalf of “Dreamers” before introducing the ‘Best Production Design’ award. The “Dreamers” are undocumented immigrants in the US, under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy, which was reportedly ended by the Trump administration in September, 2017.

Amanda Gorman, a 19-year-old Harvard University sophomore is the United States’ first National Youth Poet Laureate. Gorman was reportedly named America’s Inaugural Youth Poet Laureate in April, 2017 by the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

While growing up Amanda Gorman struggled with a hearing impairment and speech impediment but it was never going to hinder her from becoming the poet, activist, author and brand ambassador that she is today.

@amandascgorman | via InstagramGorman is the first youth to become Youth Poet Laureate of Los Angeles, prior to her becoming the Inaugural Youth Poet Laureate of the West (Western USA). The OZY Genius Award winner was subsequently brought to the attention of Michelle Obama and now, Gorman is a HERLead Ambassador for Vital Voices, a global women network founded by Hillary Clinton.

Amanda Gorman, according to the New York Times, “writes poetry with a cleareyed mix of autobiography, social issues and historical motifs”. She read her poem ‘An American Lyric’ at the inaugural reading of her friend, Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith, at the Library of Congress — the first time a youth poet ever opened for a Library of Congress Poet Laureate Consultant.

Gorman’s 1Pen1Page organization helps “students storytellers to change the world”. Despite all of her achievements at such a young age, Amanda Gorman told the New York Times that she would love to run for the office of the President of the United States (POTUS) someday. In fact, her Instagram bio reads “President 2036” and she wants you to “put that in your iCloud calendar”.

Guillermo del Toro’s Reason for Not Directing ‘Pacific Rim 2’

fan-boy-dreams-pacific-rim-uprising-credit-warner-bros

Guillermo del Toro | via MoviePilot.com

Guillermo del Toro directed the original Pacific Rim movie and the filmmaker had always hinted the possibility of a sequel to the sci-fi monster film, especially after the global success of the blockbuster. He reportedly announced some time in 2015 that pre-production of the second movie in the franchise had commenced under the title Pacific  Rim: Maelstrom.

Later, production company Legendary Pictures reportedly announced an official title change on February 23, 2016, from Pacific Rim:Maelstrom to Pacific Rim: Uprising (apparently, Pacific Rim: Maelstrom was merely a working title) adding that del Toro was going to step aside to occupy the producer’s chair while he would be replaced by Starz’s Spartacus and Marvel-Netflix’s Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight as director.

DeKnight teamed up with Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder and T. S. Nowlin to write the Pacific Rim: Uprising screenplay, albeit the sequel’s script was initially supposed to be written by del Toro, Zak Penn Travis Beacham.

However, in a recent interview with Perri Nemiroff from Collider.com, del Toro gave a rationale for not directing the Pacific Rim sequel:

“The timing started to suck”, he started. “I had this little movie that I wanted to do—The Shape of Water—very, very much. At one point it was Justice League Dark or Pacific Rim, I said, ‘Let’s go to Pacific Rim.’ The reality is they said, ‘We’re gonna need to postpone,’ because they were changing hands—Legendary was going to be sold to China, to a Chinese company [called the Wanda Group]. They said, ‘We’ve gotta wait nine months’ and I said, ‘I’m not waiting nine months, I’m shooting a movie,’ and I went and shot [The Shape of Water] and we chose Steven DeKnight.”

He admitted that DeKnight’s is redefining the franchise but he lets him do his thing “It was such a great choice. I mean I love [DeKnight], love what he does, I think he’s really brilliant. He’s making it his own. I’m not breathing over his shoulder saying, ‘What are you doing? What are you doing?’ He’s doing things differently and I like that. When I produce I try to produce the way I would like to be produced. I say to everyone I produce, ‘If you need me I will be there 100% all the time. If you don’t need me, I’m not there. You show me the cut then we’ll start interacting.”

The writer, director and producer also remarked DeKnight’s style and how the story is different from what he created: “It’s going great. I see dailies every day, I see early cuts, I see teasers. They’re doing great. It lets him have his style, lets him have his notion of the characters. I wrote a screenplay, developed two or three drafts of that screenplay—this is different than what I developed, and I’m OK. A producer is in the corner, the director is in the ring. The producer’s not getting the punches, the director is, so shut up, wait in the corner, refresh the towel and wait for the director to come to you.”

Produced by Guillermo del Toro, Thomas Tull, John Boyega, Femi Oguns MBE, Mary Parent and Jon Jashni, Pacific Rim: Uprising stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny and Jing Tian with Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Burn Gorman reprising their roles from the original movie.
